Learning how to do things professionally from someone who has mastered the craft is how knowledge is handed down from generation to generation and leads to progress in the human race. However at this point in our world, where every hiring decision is based on budget and experience, is having these unpaid internships still worth it?      After citing a loophole in the Fair Labor Standard's Act of 1938, which stated that railroad workers did not have to be paid during training, many companies have used the act to get free labor. This act is still in place but has been adjusted for the times. Workers are now entitled to a higher min...

Repatriation of The Rosetta Stone By Nate Finegold https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_Stone   The Rosetta Stone is one of the most important artifacts ever discovered pertaining to ancient Egypt. Without the Rosetta Stone, understanding and translating hieroglyphics would have been nearly impossible for many years. The Rosetta Stone is currently held in the British Museum and has been under British care since 1801. The past of the Rosetta Stone is filled with battles, takeovers and controversy. Through all of this controversy the stone has still not been returned no any progress has been made to qualm this issue. Being that it is one of the most important artifacts from ancient Egypt it has many supporters including myself advocating for its return.     Back in the late 1700s, Napoleon Bonaparte had conquered Egypt in the name of France. While France was excavating and researching the area, they came across the stone in 1799. The stone was found in the Egyptian town ...

With taxes being boring, it’s no wonder that death ends up with more of the spotlight in our modern world. In our current society, just like most past societies, death is something that interests the masses. There is a great mystery with death, what happens after, where do we go? Everyone speculates on at least at one point of death throughout their life. With this much detail and intrigue, it’s no wonder that death gets popularized through mainstream media. With this intrigue, comes the famous Museum of Death with a mission to,  “fill the void in death education in the USA.” Although clearly a popular tourist location, it is my belief that the objects presented inside the museum a...

If you were ever a kid growing up in public school, you have most likely had field trips to local museums to get a more hands-on approach to learning. One thing you might not have noticed as a kid, is the fees to get into the museum in the first place. Nowadays, as an adult, if you go to a museum to explore these different worlds you will notice that the museum fees have gotten a bit pricier.      Now of course museums are affordable for most middle-class people, on average an adult ticket will costs around 20-25$, with some variance depending on location. This is not an insanely high fee, but for people living paycheck to paycheck, that may be the difference in eating that night (Rushton...

Blog Post 1 Museums are not Neutral

Hello everyone, my name is Nate Finegold, I am a senior here at CSU Pueblo studying business with an emphasis in marketing while simultaneously trying to get my MBA.  I was born and raised here in Pueblo, I love art and movies; I play tennis and enjoy reading as well as video games from time to time. I have always really enjoyed museums ever since I was a kid.  Learning about the past, whether it be science or art or culture, has always intrigued me.  The ethical part of museum ethics is what really hooked me to this class.  I just took a business ethics class last semester, that went over some very intense and horrible behavior committed by all sorts of companies and it really held my interest throughout.  Museums, I would imagine, have crazy stories and ethical entanglements that are just as interesting and intense and that's what I am interested in learning about. The ethical issues that I am aware of is basically how countries stole things from other c...
